Don't I Just Have The Darndest Luck

I think my computer is royally fucked from spilling water on it on the flight from Dallas to PDX. I'm pissed. But what can you do. I guess it was her time to go. Single tear. I'm just glad I didn't have anything on there that wasn't backed up.

I slept all day long yesterday. Seriously. I woke up at 11am and had food and watched a episode of Buffy and then went back to sleep. Then I woke up around 10pm and put in a load of laundry, chatted with nick for a while on the phone, watched another episode of Buffy, and then went back to sleep. And then woke up finally at 7am. Lame.

Jet Lag is not my favorite part about traveling to Europe. Just gonna put that out there. Neither is spilling water on my computer. Damn turbulence. I should have never got that stupid water in the first place. Darn my dehydration.

I will update more later. As for now, I'm gonna be spending pretty much all day (and until there all done) uploading pictures from my trip onto flickr. So check it y'all!

Joss

I found this rad pic of Joss, well, I didn't find it so much as stumbled across it while following a link from whedonesque, but I like it. So I thought I'd post it, and the link to the actual site is under.

If I never hear this song again before I die...

... I will be happy. Seriously! The student union place, it's called the Hub, on campus here in Aberdeen plays this radio station in the common area, near a subway I might add, which has memorable chip flavors such as Shrimp, anyway back on topic, and I am not exagerating here, I hear the song Helicopter by Bloc Party at least twice an hour. It sucks. Its like purgatory or something. LAME.

Feast
Originally uploaded by cleartrampoline

Scotland is rad. They have ice cream bars called Feast, for one. And sandwiches called toasties, which are just like, you know, toasted sandwiches. Delicious. Every building here in Aberdeen is made out of stone and looks really cool. There seems to be a pub on every block, and I think we've been to 4 or 5 different ones already. The prices seem cheap, but the dollar isn't worth as much as the pound, so it about evens out.

Sleeping on the floor is not rad. It is like, the oposite of rad. Bad. But that's the price you pay for free accomadations. Brian has some cool roommates. When we arrived there was a note on the fridge that said 'yanks go home' and other witty hilarities that I can't think of at the moment. They were left from Brian's roommate George, who likes to kid around, you know, like putting shampoo on Brian's door handle or leaning an ironing board against the door while he's in the bathroom.

So in the London airport we met this kid who was with his parents on the way back from a Star Wars convention in Brussels. It was rad. He was 6, and mad crazy into star wars. It was awesome.

Trying to remember other details, but my brain isn't working right now. I'll try and post more later.

Jed Devine Hammer. Ha. Uh, what ever happened to that dude? Anyway...

Dude, I'm going to Scotland. Tomorrow. I'm super excited. I've never left the USA before, it's gonna be crazy. I finished packing yesterday, planned my airplane outfit, was able to fit everything I want and probably more than I need into my bags, including my pillow which I shoved in and by some miracle it actually fit. I'm so stoked.

In a L Ron Hubbard update, I walked by the library free shelf and all the L Ron books were gone! In one day they flew off the shelves. I had no idea there was so much interest in Scientolgy in my little hamlet. Kinda spooky. Like they were just a mirage. Only they weren't. 'Cause I took a picture of them.

So, how 'bout that epi of Lost last night, huh? Pretty nutty. I'm glad the finale is in two weeks because then I won't have to worry about missing it while I'm in Scotland. So I'm a bit of a slave to that show. Big dill.

In other news there is supposedly a sneak peak trailer out for Joss Whedon's new show, Dollhouse, but the link hasn't been working. But the buzz is that it looks fraktastic. Can't wait for Jan '09! http://www.dollverse.com/trailer/

Speaking of frak, I was thinking that I'm gonna watch like, 4 episodes of Battlestar Galactica tonight. And that makes me happy.

Cake

Well I watched this Heather Graham movie yesterday called Cake. Released in 2005, I'm assuming, straight to DVD, it also stars David Sutcliffe (Christopher from Gilmore Girls), Taye Diggs, and Sandra Oh. The movie was blah. I mean, I've seen worse, it was kinda cute, but the scenes were almost always just a little off, the dialogue and action just didn't seem right. And it was kinda riddled with cliches and an overall feeling of, oh, I wonder how this is going to turn out, not. Cake is the story of a free spirited gal named Pippa who won't settle down with a man, much to the chagrin of her father and married friends. Then she has to be the editor of a wedding magazine called Weddingbells, and through her experience learns to love. Isn't that sweet? Barf. Check out this message board on IMDb for some similar sentiments http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0413879/board/nest/64282251 there are, of course, people who loved the movie on there as well, trying to defend its honor, there's someone out there for every movie, isn't there?

I really like Heather Graham, but she's made a couple of duds here and there, that's for sure. But she's wonderful in Sidewalks of New York, From Hell, Drugstore Cowboy, Two Girls and a Guy, Boogie Nights, and who can forget License to Drive... and she was rad on Scrubs, and Twin Peaks. I don't know, I just wish writers would write some good scripts for her, and Hollywood would produce them, and you know, she would have some good material to work with. As actors and actresses get older, it always seems like there are no good roles for them, unless you get lucky and become a muse of Wes Anderson (like Bill Murray).

L Ron

An unexpected find on the library free pile:

A pile of L. Ron Hubbard books, still in their plastic wrap. Egads. Don't know what to make of that. Usually all that's there are old dictionaries, romance novels, and books with names like, The Killer She Loved or Love Comes for Breakfast. Actually I made those two up, I can't remember any specifics, but there are always books there with the dumbest names, and you are like, kinda depressed about it, because someone spent a lot of time writing it, and now its just on some free table at the library and no one wants it. It's just sad, that's all.

This is me preparing for Scotland.

In other news, I stayed home sick yesterday because of this massive migraine that tried to kill me, and when I woke up at 1pm I watched a couple of episodes of weeds during which for some reason I could not stop thinking about the Sims. I think its that opening, with that song, little boxes on a hill side, and the graphic with all the houses in rows... dang, I really miss playing that game.

Anyway I leave for Scotland on Saturday, which is super exciting. I'll try and post a few blogs while I'm there if I find internet access.

sometimes you need a break from the DI

How rad was that epi of lost last night, eh? I don't even know where to begin. So I'll just end with this: RAD.

The Sims 3

OMG! I have to get a new computer before this game comes out!!!! I haven't played the Sims 2 since February. I think I'm having some serious withdrawls. I need to just spend an entire weekend playing that game. The Sims 3 looks like its gonna be rad. It doesn't seem to be as different from 2 as 2 was from 1, but it still looks totally rad.

The Weekend.

phone poles

I had a pretty relaxing weekend. I haven't been working on the weekends much as of late, and its been really nice. I don't think I want to work on weekends anymore. While having the extra money is good, going insane from never having a day off isn't really worth it.

mojito

Friday night Jody and I had tacos and made this Rum Mojito Passion fruit drink that was pretty delicious, after which we watched some Buffy and were falling asleep on the couch by like, 11pm. Kinda lame, I know, but dang, I guess I was just really tired.

Saturday Jody and I tried to get coffee in Odell but were ignored, so we went to a couple of garage sales, where I spend 1 dollar on a Nine West purse and 50 cents each on two jars to hold noodles etc in on my counter. Then we went to White Salmon, because apparently they were having some really great deals at Thrift Way, which, by the way, is a pretty rad grocery store, nearly on par with Rosauers. After our little excursion I went up to my parents to move some stuff over to my brothers place, since he is being kind enough to let me store a bunch of my stuff there.

jody grilling

Then Jody and I tried out a recipe for Bacon Wrapped Jalapeno Poppers. We decided to use these larger, milder peppers, and they worked out pretty well. We did make one with a jalapeno but it proved to be hotter than we could handle. I had first tried these at a restaurant in Colorado while visiting my good friend E. Bailey, and had been dreaming about them ever since. Now that I know how easy they are to make I'm sure they will become very popular around the grill this summer.

jalepeno poppers

Later that night I watched the Blues Brothers and had some Rainer with my brother, sister-in-law (who of course didn't have any Rainer since she's preggers), and sister. It was pretty rad. I hadn't watched the Blues Brothers all the way through in a while, and I love watching funny stuff with my brother, he just has a good sense of humor, and somewhat similar taste in humor as I (i.e. Seinfeld, The Burbs, Tremors) if you just ignore his love of redneck humor.

garlic

Sunday I weeded the garlic in my yard, which as you can see by this picture taken last week, needed some weeding. After doing that and planting some petunias my mom gave me for my birthday I decided that was enough sun for my pasty skin and went in and watch two movies, The Savages (2007), and The Red Shoes (2005) and did some knitting. Then I decided I wanted to bake something, and using the excuse of cinco de mayo festivities happening at Jody's tonight, I made cupcakes while watching season 3 Gilmore Girls. I'll have to post pictures later (of the cupcakes, not Gilmore Girls).

garlic

Overall, pretty pleasant weekend. How was yours?
